5-0 Win for Women’s 2s
After a couple of very tough games against Uni and Clitheroe we were out to win! This fixture against Carlisle which had been cancelled twice due to frozen pitches could wait no longer. As always a tough-love team talk from Cath got us in the right frame of mind and we started off well with swift passing and quick thinking. It wasn’t long before Jennifer Buchanan battled her way into the D and forced in a reverse stick goal. The first half continued at a high pace, with any Carlisle counter attacks shut down by our new look defence of Melissa Cox on the right, Jen, Jane and Sophie Williams on the left.
In the second half our passing game and intensity was stepped up a notch and some top class runs, pick ups and near misses from Orla Cronin and Libby Martin who were making there first 2nd team appearances ever this season! Some great balls through from the back and interchangeable play from the revolving door of midfielders including myself, Hannah Shaw and Jennifer McArthur lead to goals, goals, goals. Two for Jo, one for Remi Wood and one from Jen Mac (some of which have been caught on camera by some loyal Sefton family members!)
Anyway we won 5-0 giving us +1 goal difference for this weekend, Cath told us she was proud of us; we had Sarah Lally back in the fold and Rachel Kelly survived her birthday week. I was today’s MoM probably because I managed to cross the attacking 25 (nose bleed) and also because I have not yet written a match report! One more game left and we will be asking for club members to pray for Nicola Mulvoy ‘s hamstrings in the hope she can help us shut this season down!
Oh and another solid performance for killer keeper Kat Fargher- big fan of your work, those clearance kicks- dreamy!
