Tennis Twitterings – November 2017

It May be Dark, Wet and Cold – but Tennis Stalwarts (?) Play On. Most people would assume (not without good reason) that as the nights get darker, colder and wetter, that tennis players hang up their rackets, put their head bands on a cold wash and take time to whiten their plimsolls. How wrong they would be! Those of us who are strong of heart, resolute of purpose and thick of head still continue in our pursuit of excellence, regardless of the futility of our endeavours. If you would like to ‘enjoy’ a regular knock then the following sessions are taking place throughout the winter and you are welcome to join us; Ladies; 6:30 – 8:00pm Gents; Tuesdays; 6:00 – 8:00pm Mixed Social; Saturdays 2:30 – 4:00pm. Hope to see you there and don’t forget to wrap up warm! 2018 – The Planning Starts NOW. It may surprise you to learn that your tennis committee are not sitting back, sipping tea and reflecting that the older we get the better we were (not all of us anyway), but planning for activities, improvement and progress in 2018. This includes the upskilling of our coaches Paul and Dan to provide regular sessions aimed at improving our match play. Family focussed events to encourage Members and their family to enjoy a game on our courts and regular Section competitions to give all members the opportunity to take on the ‘better’ players, prove their worth and pick up a trophy. Our programme of events kicks off early in January and meetings with our coaches have already taken place to organise an Open Doubles Competition. Details will be provided in our December Twitter and also on………………….. Section Web-Site. We now have our own website which contains information about our activities and events. This is your ‘mouthpiece’ so if you have something to say why not use it? So take a look by logging on to;...

Tennis Twitter – October

Chavasse Cup Mixed Doubles Competition  Having reflected on the progress of our younger members and their challenge to the established players as demonstrated by their success during the recent American Doubles Competition, it was ‘service as normal‘ at the Chavasse Cup Mixed Doubles event, when Linda Coleman and Alan Davies saw off the young upstarts in a hotly contested competition. The standard of play throughout the competition was fantastic and a number of teams came within a whisker of making it into the final. The most pleasing aspect of the competition was the mix of players; young and older, experienced and new to the game and those that thought they were good and those that actually were. The future for the section looks very bright. We are now planning to run a Ladies and Men’s Doubles Competition in December. Whilst this will be weather and festive celebration dependant, it is hoped that members will welcome the opportunity to escape from the stress of shopping and seek refuge on our courts. Paul and Dan will be organising this event and will be in touch soon. Section Web-Site. The tennis section now has its own website that contains information about our activities and events.
