Women’s End of Season Awards 2015
It has been another great season with many people making outstanding contributions at different points. Some people have continued to improve through practise and hard work while other people need huge praise for their commitment off the pitch. We have gained a few more historic wins and finished fourth in the league.
The end of season awards:
Players’ player was surprisingly a close call but rightly went to the player who has had a huge impact on our team and made a difference in all league games this season. Her preferred position is a low attacker but she has adapted to the requirements of our team and had a super season in the midfield. Her draw control is amazing and she still tops this with wonder goals. This player’s talents don’t stop there, she constantly drives through so many sticks with ease and gives others the motivation to keep working hard and improving. It has been a privilege to play with you this season. The award goes to Monica White.
Player of the season is someone who will perform whatever role is needed. This could be in attack, more often in defence and even as the referee. This player is always working hard to improve her skills and fitness and it has definitely showed on the pitch this season. If you haven’t already guessed it is Hannah Forshaw.
Top goal scorer the stats can always be adapted to show what you want but this isn’t the case as there was only one outcome. She scored fifty goals and had an average of just over three goals a game. Obviously with 50% of the teams’ goals this award goes to Monica White.
The most improved player is a valuable new addition to our team. She demonstrates the commitment that I ask for each week and is always wanting to win. She won Most Valuable Player in our historic win against Heaton Mersey and has become more vocal on the pitch with each game she has played in. if she keeps improving at the same rate next season, I am sure she will win a few more awards. The award goes to Helena Fox.
A new award for this season is the forgotten heroes, the defenders! Defender of the season goes to someone who can always be relied on to give 110%. Some of her checks get pulled up by the referees but in my eyes it is just excellent commitment. She also makes some surging runs through the midfield and has popped up with a goal in her second game back. If you haven’t already guessed it is Emma Raven.
Other memorable moments this season:
- Two wins against Heaton Mersey.
- Lyndsey getting yellow cards in the first four games! After that she had a good season and was the second highest goal scorer with 22 this season.
- Monica’s shot against Brooklands from the edge of the fan.
- Monica’s, Melissa’s and Rozi’s five goal haul.
This year it looks like there is only one person who is moving on. Monica, you have been a brilliant LDO and have scored many fabulous goals that definitely helped us to our best season ever. Good luck in the future and if you’re ever back in Liverpool come and play for us!
