Great Season for Women’s 2s despite losing Last Game

This week saw Sophie deservedly back in the 2s and an appearance for Caz Slater. Even though Nicola Mulvoy came kitted out to play, injury prevented her from doing so; the only hockey she played was warming me up.

Going into the game today we knew it was going to be tough. Northern came out strong and held us in our half for the first 10 minutes. Great defensive work ensured they did not put the ball in to the goal. We were then able to drive at their D and apply pressure to them with great running from all the forwards and midfielders.

Northern eventually managed to break into our D and score 2 quick goals. We continued to press and win some short corners but were unable to convert any chances.

Half time came and our aim was to go out and score at least 3 goals and not concede any more. Unfortunately this did not happen. Northern were able to put 3 more shots into the back of the net, whereas we were only able to convert one, courtesy of Jo.

Final score was Northern 5  Sefton 1.

Today’s loss does not reflect the season the 2s have had and everyone who has played for and helped the 2s this season should be proud. To finish 4th or 5th after being promoted last season is amazing.

Where we finish in the table will depend on how well Preston (Sophie Taylor) do against Carlisle next week.  If they lose we will finish 4th.

Great season from the 2s this year.   Well done girls
