Tennis Twitterings – Week 12
It was the Parks competition this week so only a rearranged Men’s B and a Men’s C team fixture to report on;
Men’s B Team: For the first time this season the B team tasted victory over fellow relegation battlers Waterloo in a victory that might see us safe from relegation come the end of the season. 4-2 winners on the night. We hope to develop the habit of winning feeling for the rest of our games.
Men’s C Team; Last minutes withdrawals impacted significantly on the C team in their match against high flyers East Wavertree. A 5-1 defeat does not truly reflect how close this game was. Special thanks go to Ernie Traynor who was dragged from his dinner table to fill in and did a magnificent job.
Next Week’s Fixtures:
- Ladies A team: Tuesday 18th July – Home v Campion ‘B’
- Ladies B team: Thursday 20th July – Away v Ruskin Park ‘ A’
- Men’s A team: Tuesday 18th July – Away v David Lloyd ‘A’
- Men’s B team: Monday 17th July – Home v Bohemians ‘C’
- Men’s C Team: Tuesday 18th July – Home v Rainford ‘C’
Please check and confirm arrangements with team captains.
Proposed Schools Partnership.
The section has now developed a Strategic Junior Development Plan aimed at reducing our player’s average age (down to 50?) and increasing junior player recruitment. This will be supported by funding from both the Section and the LTA. The main intention of this ambition is based on reinforcing existing associations and establishing new partnerships with local schools by offering a series of free coaching sessions either on or off site.
Obviously this is easier to achieve if we have ‘inside information’, so if you are a teacher or have contacts with the following schools; Belvedere, St Margaret’s, St Hilda’s, Sudley Juniors and Booker Avenue can you please email details to: email@example.com
Free Coaching Session – Friday 14th July.
Just a reminder that our Ladies A team captain Ann Paramo has kindly offered to host a coaching session with Dan Pritchard on Friday 14th July between 6 and 8pm.
Whilst it is appreciated that it may be a bit late in the season to influence our eventual positions in the league, it is often said that it is never too late to learn. Hopefully this session will lead to a number of similar activities aimed at improving our performance and recruiting new players for next season. Remember: Fail to plan; plan to fail.
Mixed Doubles Competition.
As reported recently we will be arranging a mixed doubles competition at the end of the season in order that we can all continue to maintain contact and ‘put faces to names’. Whilst this is intended to be a bit of fun it is also a serious competition with a Club challenge trophy at stake. Matches will take place during August with the final possibly being played on August Bank Holiday as a part of our annual American Doubles Competition.
Team captains will be recruiting candidates during the next few weeks but if you are interested in taking part and not in any of our teams please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
